“The” Lloyd Davis is well-known in London circles for creating, with his 200 best friends, the Tuttle Club which was pretty much the closest thing London has ever seen to Silicon Valley tech culture. But it’s only one of about fifty three fascinating facets of this mercurial master of mysteries. Lloyd will tell us stories. He may show us some pictures. There may even be some thinking about the nature of community and, dare I say it, society.

There will be ukeleke.

Lloyd Davis is a social artist and master community builder. He has been blogging and podcasting since 2004. With a diverse background that includes theatre, information management and public service regulation he has acquired a unique, in-depth and practical understanding of the social web and building rich relationships online and off. Having founded London’s highly influential Tuttle Club which regularly attracts the UK’s brightest social media thinkers and doers, Lloyd writes, speaks and consults about these uses of social technology. He has been Social Artist in Residence at the University of London’s Centre for Creative Collaboration since 2010 and is currently exploring the life of an itinerant knowledge worker, travelling and working around the UK with the help of his online social network.

Curtis Faith is one of Those People. You know the type - up to something, globally scheming for a better world, knows a really interesting sideways truth about damn near anything, and has a connection to most scenes. He’s That Man. About a year ago he kicked off one of the most productive periods of my life by challenging me to write down The Plan to deal with The Situation, and my explanation of why I could not is still about the best thing I’ve written. He’s the right voice at the right time.

We didn’t have an event this Tuesday - more time for discussions about where Truth & Beauty was going. I felt we’d gotten a little off track in November because of the incredible guest speakers: content over community, and that we needed to slow down a little and regroup.

December’s good for that, so we decided to drop back to once a week for December.

December is really, really busy for people so we’ll try once a week on Tuesdays
Some of the regulars are curating, so we’ll have a different mix of stuff from the Wall of Content we had in November
Catering’s stable on Tuesday nights, so we’ve got delicious dinners sorted out, but we do need to figure out prepay so that Naomi’s not ever in the position of having cooked too much!

If you’d like the full experience, there’s good quality complete audio from the talk, including a quick introduction to The Future We Deserve book, and the (fascinating) Q&A session.

The first The Future We Deserve session at Hub Westminster. Really a splendid time - 23 people came, from many different corners (our most remote visitor was KateMural who was in from America.) Dinner from Munch Food was lovely.

I presented FUTURE NOW, a talk about understanding the world through statistics, focusing on what might be broadly termed “economic geography.” The slide deck is fairly complete and accessible, you can see it on Google Docs. Rough video will be up soon, too!

Thursday November 3rd’s talk will be by Eleanor Saitta about rules, aesthetics, ethics, beauty, and suffering in the context of new kinds of shared experiences. I hope you can make it!

Tuesday November 8th will be me again, on Why Won’t Anybody Act, discussing the limits of government and governance to fix the problems we face together on this planet. The final talk on The Future We Deserve will be on Tuesday November 15th, on Heuristics for History - searching for a better future together.

Hi everybody! So Thursday is going to be A Bit Complicated, but very worthwhile.

6:45 PM Dinner!

First up, we’ve got catering! Naomi of Munch Food is going to cook a lovely organic vegetarian dinner for us. You sign up here: prepay for dinner on Thursday by Eventbrite. There will probably be a dinner or two available for cash on the evening but please don’t count on it - let Naomi know how much food to prepare by ordering in advance! We’ll be doing this from now on, I think.

8PM NOT QUITE MUSIC TIME!

9PM instead!

Normally we do the music at 8PM. But this week we have the Changemakers Fayre at Hub Westminster. There’s a ton of amazing stuff going on at the Fayre, so we’re going to let the place settle down a little before getting down to business. Basically we’ll push music (I think it’s Dougald doing the first double bill, both Truth and Beauty and then Beauty and Truth).

So take a look at the Changemaker’s Fayre, and if you can help out with anything on the Hub’s Open Todo-list - do please help. Splendid!
